PERSONALITY:
One of the first things people will notice about Chen is the fact she has the tendency to act like a cat. Some of her favorite things are napping in the sun and catnip. One way to distract her is to put Catnip around the area and she will lose track of what she was doing and deal with the catnip's effects on her. Loud noises can startle her, as her hearing is sharper and more focused because of her ears. This does not mean she can't fight these instincts but it takes a lot of focus and a reason for her to ignore it.
Due to the issues water causes her and very bad experiences in the past, she has developed a minor case of Aquaphobia. Parts of it could be from of her cat like tendencies but a good portion of it is due to how she feels after being hit or in the water. The effects get worse the more water that hits her and the longer it stays on her. She's afraid that one day someone will find a way to throw her into a deep part of a lake or pool and the lethargy will make it impossible for her to get out in time. This fear keeps her far away from any large bodies of water or pools.
Chen realizes that if she had not been found by Ran and taken in by Yukari, She would probably would be not alive or back in the cycle of being unwanted in homes. In light of that, she has become very protective of them. She wishes to become stronger and learn to control her mutations so if the time comes, she can use them to keep them safe.
Even with all of that and her past, Chen is a very friendly girl. She is more then willing to go into a group of people and try and make friends. She is naturally curious and may ask questions that make people wonder or even uncomfortable. She will always apologize once she realizes what she has done, not wanting to upset anyone who could be fun to talk or play with. She is intelligent, it just seems to be overshadowed by her hyper and childish nature.
She can be very childish though, acting more like a much younger child then a twelve year old. She will still play and whine. When this is pointed out to her, she will pout about it. Her mindset can be compared to a kitten's, wanting to learn about everything but wanting nothing more then to play. In class she does move about a bit but does pay attention unless it is something she that does not seem interesting.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Nekomata Physiology - A physical mutation. She has cat ears and two tails. She does have cat like tendencies like hating water (She says it makes her feel weak and yucky!) and loving catnip. With this she is more flexible, her senses are enhanced and a bit faster the usual.
She can also use 'Ghost Lights', a form of Pyrotechnic Projection, but only when she is startled or very frightened. The are balls of light/fireworks and They shine for a moment and then explode into a light burst or firework with a chance of possibly blinding someone for a short time. She has no control over this at this point in time and may eventually be able to control it with practice.
Water can disable her and make her unable to use any of her powers for a period of time, depending on how much water hits her and lingers. Completely drenched she will be very lethargic and unwilling to move while slightly wet will just annoy her. She can still bathe but limits herself to a quick shower to get the water off of her as quickly as possible.
AU HISTORY:
For the first 5 years of life, Chen was constantly moved from home to home. She never thought she'd ever find a spot that she would stay in for more then a few months.
She was given up at birth, as her physical mutation was one her birth parents did not want to deal with at all so they gave her up. She was placed in foster care and the cycle of moving began. Mostly because of as she got old enough to start telling the parents she had at the time that water was yucky and felt bad.
This along with her hyperactive nature and the fact they liked to keep her inside to hide her from others tended to make her into a problem child. She was extremely active and without being allowed outside she tended to run around, knocking things over. After a few of these 'rampages' they would request that she be re-homed. After the first few times, she would refuse to take her belongings out of the box, just waiting for the next time she would move on.
Even at school she wasn't exactly happy. She was teased about having to wear a hat, which hid her ears and once she was found out, the teases got worse and usually happened around the time she would move on. So she endured the teasing and just kept going with a smile.
But even that took it's toll on the girl. After recovering from a forced dip into the pool, Chen packed up the few belongings she had and ran away from the Foster Home she was staying at. She hid her obvious features with a hat and keeping her tails hidden under her shirt. Chen roamed the streets for a while, since the idea of having a 'family' or a 'home' didn't seem to be in the cards for her.
Avoiding adults and others who might just take her back worked for a while until she ran into someone she could not avoid. She meet up with a woman who Chen seemed to run into her where ever she tried to go. At first it scared her and she attempted to hide from her but after a few times, she decided to find out more about her. She learned the woman's name, Ran, and from there, Chen was excited to talk to her. The fox ears and tails kept her interest and soon she found herself telling Ran her own story, removing the hat and letting her tails free. After she told it, she was slightly worried that she would be turned in but that wasn't the case.
After their conversation Chen followed Ran around and met with another woman, Yukari. After speaking with her and telling her story once more a decision was made on the girl. A few phone calls later and another few conversations later, Chen had a home. It took time and effort as time went on but she settled down and learned that this was what a family should be.
Then Yukari left for a school in America that was one for mutants. Chen wanted to come along but had to stay behind. She pouted about this for a while and kept herself distracted from this. So when Yukari returned, telling her it was time to come along, She was surprised but happy. Since it seemed to be a safer environment to teach and learn for mutants. Chen came along with no complaints and was very excited to finally see this school and meet others that understood.

In the back of a dim shop, with hats everywhere, Chen stood there looking them all over. In her hands was a destroyed hat. It was a accident really, someone came up behind her and put it on her head and in her panic and pain in her ears, she tore the hat up and made the owner sad. After yelling at the kid who put the hat on her, she promised to replace the hat. Which lead to her standing there now. Her ears were flat against her head as she looked over each one.
She really didn't mean to tear the hat up so badly, She was just surprised and the sudden pain of her ears bending funny scared her so much, it had to come off quickly. She shook her head, Thinking about what happened would not help. Reaching up and taking a few hats off the shelf and comparing them to the one in her hands. This went on for a while, the look on her face dropping with every hat she compared. None of these looked right and her hope of getting one close to the hat in her hand was dwindling.
After about 20 minutes of that she sighed and put the last one she was looking at and turned to walk out of the store. As she made her way back to the front, she spotted the hat out of the corner of her eye. She smiled and darted over, scooping up the hat and making sure. Once she was sure it was correct, Chen took off towards the front. She found it and could make the owner smile again.

PERSONALITY:
